Imagining that we could build "start-up countries"...

 

...and escape limiting, outdated forms of governance that hold people back.  "Seasteading", according to its advocates, has the promise to do this, creating new "spaces for human freedom".

Imagining a people and planet-friendly lifestyle

"The nation [Japan] was already facing a number of problems. An increasing number of young people having trouble finding jobs. Many people are quitting their jobs early. The country's self sufficiency in energy and food is low, at 4 and 40%, respectively. A rapidly aging society, bringing with it elderly nursing care issues, along with the ageing of the farming population, with more than two-thirds of farmers aged over 65."

Against this background, a new lifestyle is reportedly quietly becoming popular in Japan.  Some think this way of living, called the "Half-Farmer/Half-X" lifestyle, has the potential to significantly reduce or gradually solve these other problems, and to help the nation realise a more attractive and diverse future.

So should other countries currently suffering similar problems to Japan start to examine such a societal model, and what might they look like in 10, 20, 50 years time if they did?
