Many rich countries agreed to give 0.7% of their Gross National Income in aid to poor countries for development.  However, average aid delivered each year has, reportedly, actually been between 0.2-0.4%, meaning that the aid shortfall has now reached $3.6 trillion, greater than aid given.

Problems - 03/06/07

  • Childhood - around the world, an estimated 27,000 children die daily.
  • Climate - is the truth about the Kyoto protocol that it has meant for some, huge profits and little carbon saved for anyone?
  • Conflict - should we fear the rise of the "nuclear poor", manufacturing and deploying weaponry through non-state groups?
  • Development - in 2006, the rich world spent three times more on bottled water ($58bn) than on aid to Africa ($18bn) and 10 times more on military expenditure ($1trillion) than on aid globally ($104bn).

Problems - 16/05/07

  • Assets - companies trying to develop their "human capital" face some key strategic challenges.
  • Climate - is deforestation the hidden cause of global warming?
  • Demographics - is having large families an "eco-crime"?
  • Development - many developing countries believe the industrialised world has defaulted on its promises of financial and technical assistance.
  • Youth - some young people see the media as five times more important than politics.
