Responses - 21/06/07

  • Activism - smart mobs, communicating via texts, have halted the construction of a chemical plant that they considered would be dangerously toxic.
  • Consumption - how to avoid the"affluenza" virus.
  • Energy - as emerging economies grow, they often face power constraints. Part of the solution might be an "electranet”, a flexible, adhoc structure that would allow power producers to spill excess power onto a network and sell it.

Problems - 12/05/07

  • Africa/Conflict - "Africa's Pol Pot" allegedly masterminded the slaughter of nearly a million people in Rwanda. The international community has charged him with genocide. They know where he is. So why is he still free? (See also A Sunday at the Pool in Kigali.)
  • Consumption - with big corporations jumping on the do-good bandwagon, who is benefiting most from ethical business?
